App for U.S. Open of Surfing

TransWorld SURF has two new apps for the iPad.

This year's Nike U.S. Open of Surfing event is expected to bring in over 500,000 spectators, showcasing the best in surf, skate, BMX, music, fashion and art from July 30 to Aug. 7 in Huntington Beach, California. And in a first, iPad users now have their own exclusive app for the event, the Nike U.S. Open of Surfing Official Program application, from TransWorld SURF.

TransWorld SURF produced the event's program, providing over 30 pages of schedules and information, that will be distributed onsite. The program will be included in TransWorld SURF's September 2011 issue.

"It makes sense to take the program and turn it digital," says TransWorld SURF Publisher Charlie Anderson. "It's simple. The goal is to enable a larger segment of people to access the program that was once only available in a print version."

Shortly following the release of this application, TransWorld SURF will launch its Mag+ iPad edition, a surf media exclusive, stand-alone iPad application. The launch will be held on the beach in Huntington during the U.S. Open, allowing all attendees of the event an opportunity to experience and operate the application hands on with iPads provided at the booth.

"The Nike US Open of Surfing is the perfect place to launch TransWorld SURF+," says TransWorld Digital Producer Amie Barder. "With such a large surf-focused audience attending the event, we'll be able to get iPads and our new app into the hands of people that really connect to the content."
